Frequently asked questions

As a licensed clinical mental health provider, why do you offer coaching services?

I offer coaching services for several reasons:

1) Expanding scope of practice: Coaching allows LPCCs to work with a broader range of clients, including those who don't require clinical mental health interventions.

2) Preventative approach: Coaching can help address issues before they develop into clinical concerns, aligning with a preventative mental health approach.

3) Flexibility: Coaching services often allow for more flexibility in terms of session structure and focus compared to traditional therapy.

4) Meeting diverse client needs: Some clients may prefer the goal-oriented, future-focused approach of coaching over traditional therapy.

5) Avoiding stigma: Some individuals may be more comfortable seeking coaching rather     than therapy due to perceived stigma around mental health treatment.

6) Complementary skills: The skills and knowledge of an LPCC can enhance coaching services, providing a unique blend of mental health expertise and performance improvement strategies.

7) Professional development: Offering coaching services can be a way for LPCCs to expand their professional skills and experiences.

8) Addressing non-clinical issues: Coaching allows LPCCs to help clients with life, career, or relationship goals that may not fall under the umbrella of  clinical counseling.

9) Holistic approach: Combining counseling expertise with coaching techniques can provide a more comprehensive approach to personal growth and development.

Do you offer in-person or online services?

I offer a range of service delivery options to accommodate different preferences and circumstances:

1) In-person services: For those who prefer face-to-face interactions, I have traditional in-office sessions available located in downtown San Francisco.

2) Online services: If you prefer the convenience of remote sessions or are unable to attend in person, I provide fully online services using a secure video conferencing platform.

3) Hybrid services: Understanding that needs and schedules can vary, we also offer a hybrid option. This allows you to schedule a mixture of online and in-person sessions, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best for you from week to week.

If you have any questions about these options or would like to discuss which might be the best fit for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

If I'm interested in services, what's the best way to get started?

The best way to get started is to book a consultation with me. This initial session is crucial as it allows us to discuss your specific situation, goals, and needs in detail. During this consultation, we can explore the various options available and determine which of our services would be the most beneficial for you. Whether you're interested in therapy, coaching, or aren't sure which approach would be best, this consultation will help clarify the path forward. It's an opportunity for you to ask questions, express any concerns, and get a feel for my approach.

Why do you charge for a consultation?

I understand this is an important consideration for potential clients. I charge for consultation sessions because I believe that time is our most valuable resource. Just as your time and expertise are valuable in your field, my skills and knowledge in counseling and coaching are the result of years of education, training, and experience. These initial consultations are not merely administrative meetings, but valuable sessions where I provide insights, assess needs, and begin to formulate strategies tailored to each individual's unique situation. For me to give my very best during these sessions and provide the highest quality of service, I need to be compensated for my time and expertise.

This approach ensures that I can dedicate my full attention and professional resources to each client, right from the start. It also allows me to maintain the high standard of care that my clients deserve and have come to expect. I believe that this investment in a consultation session demonstrates a mutual commitment to the process and sets the foundation for a productive professional relationship. It's an opportunity for us both to determine if we're a good fit and to start our work together on the right footing. If you have any further questions about this policy or would like to discuss it more, please don't hesitate to ask.

Why do you prefer to work with clients on a bi-monthly basis?

1) Consistency and commitment: Regular, scheduled sessions encourage ongoing commitment to personal growth.
It also helps  maintain momentum in the client's progress.

2) Financial predictability: Clients can budget more easily with a fixed monthly cost and it offers a more affordable option compared to per-session pricing.

3) Flexibility in session frequency: This allows me to adapt to the client's changing needs throughout the month. This also provides the client an ability to process the content reviewed in session and practice new approaches.

4) Comprehensive support: Includes additional resources or support materials.

5) Goal-oriented approach: It aligns with monthly goal-setting and review cycles it also enables tracking of progress over consistent time periods. AND I've found bi-monthly sessions to be maintainable for most couples.

6) Building stronger relationships: Commitment fosters a deeper understanding between the coach/counselor and client it also allows for more personalized, evolving strategies.

7) Addressing ongoing challenges: It's suitable for working on complex issues that require sustained effort and provides continuity in addressing recurring patterns or behaviors.

8) Convenience: Many of my clients find it to be easier to integrate into busy lifestyles.

9) Holistic view: This allows me to observe patterns and context over time.

10) Accountability: Regular check-ins promote accountability for both client and professional and encourages consistent effort towards goals.
